THE STORY OF MY LIFE

Remy was born in 1976 in Paramaribo, Suriname. At the age of five he crossed the ocean with his family to start a life in the Netherlands. His love for sports started with football, with the dream of becoming a professional football player. He had to give up that dream when he was sixteen because of a leg injury. Thanks to a friend, he found a new passion: Thai Boxing. After only six months he was ready for his first competition, and won. It was the start of a successful worldwide career.

The Flying Gentleman

Until the age of 25, Remy worked as a network operator for a large internet company. It became increasingly difficult to combine his Thai Boxing career with his work. Until a good friend made an offer he couldn’t refuse. His exact words were: “Remy, if you choose to do K-1 and give your 100%, I will sponsor you and I will ensure that you develop your talent by practicing as much as possible.” At that time he trained at Mejiro Gym, because of his pedaling technique Bonjasky soon got the nickname The Flying Gentleman. Just a year and a half after becoming a professional Thai Boxer, he won the K-1 World Grand Prix. A dream come true.
