Remy Bonjasky “The Flying Gentleman” defeats Alistair "The Demolition man” Overeem
Today would be the first performance of Remy “The Flying Gentleman Bonjasky” after winning the K-1 Grand prix Grand Tournament for the third time last December. His opponent was nobody less then Alistair “The Demolition man” Overeem who felt comfortable enough to challenge Remy, the three times champion, after knocking out the 2nd
K-1 2008 finalist Badr “Bad Boy” Hari.

The fight between Alistair en Remy was soon placed in another dimension as the fight would be the clash between the two different fighting worlds MMA and K-1. Many fans carefully speculated that if Overeem as a MMA fighter could win from the two best
K-1 fighters of 2008 it would be the downfall of the k-1, because of the fact that K-1 fighters are more specialized in upstanding fights then MMA fighters.

Off course Remy Bonjasky felt the pressure that was placed on his shoulders for the upcoming fight , as Remy was now seen as the guardian and gatekeeper for all the
K-1 fighters and fans.

Alistair “The Demolition man” Overeem added more fuel to the fire by calling Remy a Flying actor in one of his interviews and even presented Remy “The Flying Gentleman” Bonjasky a Oscar Replica during the press conference. Remy Bonjasky responded by advising Overeem to stop using drugs, as Alistair was getting bigger and bigger and that even his ears grew along with it.

As the psychological war became more nasty Remy “The Flying Gentleman” Bonjasky was getting even more eager and anxious to show his skills and beat Alistair “The Demolition man” Overeem.

Two days before the fight Bonjasky encountered some real bad luck! As Remy stood up while sitting behind a table in a restaurant Remy twisted his left knee. At first the knee felt painfully but the following day which was the fighting day the injury had become very severe. Remy could not walk right and certainly not move in fighting position, what off course would be a key factor in the fight against the heavy and strong Overeem. Remy’s knee was in no fighting condition so Team Bonjasky decided to cancel the fight. However the K-1 organization declared that canceling the main fight was not an option, so there was chosen to give Remy an anaesthetic injection.

With a heavy blow to his self-confidence and an injured knee Remy Bonjasky started the fight.

The first round started with Alistair trying to come close to Remy and trying to place his knees. Remy reacted by countering with his low kicks. The 2nd round Alistair kept Remy out of his own gameplan by holding on to Remy and throwing him to the ground. But Remy kept fighting with his spirit high.

In the third round the fight came into a much faster pace. As if Overeem knew about the knee injury he started to attack the left leg with knees and kicks. Remy managed to connect with a few heavy body kicks and started to use his right knee. Right before the end of the third round Remy swung his right hand on the chin of Alistair and scored a knock down. Remy could unfortunately not finish Overeem as there were only 46 seconds left on the clock. But knowing the condition in which Remy the “Flying Gentleman” Bonjasky fought this fight we can only conclude that Remy not just did enough to win the fight but did an amazing job. After the three rounds Remy “The Flying Gentleman” Bonjasky was unanimously declared as the winner of the fight.
