K-1 Debut in Taiwan: Remy “The Flying Gentleman” Bonjasky vs Volk Atajev.
The 13th of July 2008 The K-1 organization has spread her wings to Taipei, Taiwan. It was the first time the K-1 was hosted in Taiwan and for the opponent of Remy it was his K-1 fight debut. Remy’s opponent Volk Atajev was relatively unknown, so Remy had no idea what kind of fighter to expect, or which techniques Volk would use. Remy however always relies on his own skills and techniques and does not really alternate his training scheme for any opponent. So it was rather a small issue for Remy not knowing his opponent. But this would certainly not result in underestimating Volk from Remy’s point of view.

As if becoming a ritual to Remy, he arrived one and a half week before the fighting day, at the destination. There in Taipei Remy started to acclimatize, train en prepare for the fight. Between the trainings there was also time for sightseeing and time to get to know Taipei. Remy visited The 2nd highest tower in the world, Taipei 101.The Building is 1,667 feet high and, consist of 101 floors.

Just before Remy prepared for his last training 2 days before the fight an odd moment occurred. The whole team Bonjasky was waiting on the 13th floor of the Sheraton hotel for Remy to finish his last training. Suddenly the whole building started to wobble. Not enough for the eye to see, but enough for the body to feel. The wobbling was the result of a small earth quake. Small earth quakes are quit common in Taiwan and thankfully usually not harmful. For the Team Bonjasky who are not used to this nature force it was a bit scary but on the other hand very fascinating.

The k-1 tournament was held in the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center, where the fight between Volk Atajev and Remy “The Flying Gentleman” Bonjasky was the main event of the evening. for Remy there was nothing else to do but to spare his energy and wait until later in the evening he was called upon. Finally the moment arrived.

The first round of the fight showed Remy working Volk his legs with low kicks and Volk mainly throwing boxing combinations. The Russian succeeded in lightly landing a spinning back kick to the chest of Remy.

Not much later the Russian fighter landed a spinning back kick on the back of Remy’s head. “The gentleman” seemed as if he wanted to take a few steps back but Remy responded by a high kick. In the second round Remy picked up the pace by working his famous hard low kicks, were Volk was targeting the Body with punches. Remy later threw in a flying knee, which was blocked by Volk. In the break heading for the third round Ivan expressed Remy that he was not satisfied with the amount of combinations Remy had executed.

Bonjasky understood the message and started the last round firmly with boxing combinations and finishing the combinations with body and low kicks, pushing Atajev backwards in the ring. Remy now fully stepping up the past. A left kick and a flying right knee landed on the head of Atajev who goes down to the canvas and another win for Remy “The Flying Gentleman” Bonjasky by way of KO is a fact.

Again Remy can look back at a good fight and he can honestly say he fully enjoyed his stay in the city of Taipei were the weather was nice, the citizens were very friendly and the fans showed an enormous amount of positive energy !
