Training with Mirko “Crocop” Filipovic
Somewhere in July Ivan Hippolite received a telephone call from Ken Imai, the manager of Mirko Filipovic, asking if Remy was interested in training with Mirko. Mirko had lost his last match from Gabriel Gonzaga by way of KO. This of course had made great impact on the Mirko team, and for the next match the team wanted to upgrade the training sessions with the best stand up fighter who has excellent kicking techniques and with the best ground fighter. Because Gilbert Yvel and Remy are both the type of fighters the team was looking for and also are training at the same dojo they directly decided to choose both fighters for the preparation for Mirko's next match against the "The African Warrior" Cheick Kongo. This upcoming strong fighter Cheik Kongo is no stranger to Yvel who fought Cheik and won, two years ago on an ITS Showtime Event in the Netherlands. The scheduled training camp would have positive effects for each fighter. On one hand Gilbert and Remy would have an excellent training camp without any distractions so they could fully focus on nothing else but training. On the other hand Mirko could spare with the both fighters. This was a welcome relief for Mirko because he does not have a sparring partner in Croatia. The training sessions which were in a dojo beneath the house of Mirko went smoothly. Looking back on the sparring sessions Remy can honestly say that it has been a terrific experience because Mirko is a true champion in the game he plays and the techniques he executes and furthermore the training camp in general was well taken care of. Every day both fighters were escorted from and to the hotel they stayed in.
